4 WEEKS BEFORE MOVING DAY Check with insurance company to confirm possessions are covered during transit. Schedule connection of utility services at your new home, including electricity, water, sewage, cable, internet, telephone and trash disposal service. Schedule the disconnection of utility services at your old home. Change your address with the US Postal Service, credit card companies, subscriptions, schools and family. Purchase locks for your new home and arrange to have them installed Arrange for cleaning of furniture and carpet. Make any necessary travel plans for your move. Gather personal and family records including medical, dental, school records, legal and financial documents, birth certificates, passports and insurance documents. Have a garage sale or donate items you do not want to move. 1-2 WEEKS BEFORE MOVING DAY Return any borrowed items such as library books and retrieve all borrowed items. Prepare a “Move Kit” for first night in the new home. Include essentials like phone charger, toiletries, travel alarm clock, first aid kit, snacks, and games for the kids. Make childcare and pet arrangements for moving day. DAY BEFORE MOVE Have cash ready for tips and travel expenses. Empty, defrost and clean your refrigerator and freezer. Disconnect and prepare major appliances. Check closets, cabinets, and rooms to make sure you didn’t leave anything. FOR THE NEW OWNER Put all house keys, mailbox keys and garage door openers in a bag. Create a folder with warranties and manuals. Use the New Homeowner Checklist to provide important contact numbers such as utility companies, neighbors, handyman, etc. and security and gate codes.

Use layers, textures, and color to make the bed inviting and photogenic. Fold the sheets down over a blanket and tuck sheets in blanket. Use a white or neutral bed skirt if it is not a platform bed. Triple-fold a comforter at the foot of the bed and possibly add a throw. Use Euro shams (24" square) for the back row and stand vertically. For a queen bed use 2 and for a king bed use 3. Another option is to use coordinating shams for the back row – queen inserts for a queen bed and king inserts for a king bed. Next, use coordinating throw pillows vertically to layer. Be careful not to use too many and make the bed seem short or look complicated. The bed needs to look beautiful and photogenic without being too fussy.
